DR. CHERYL OLSON: Hello. I'm Dr. Cheryl Olson. I grew up in Broomfield, Colorado and did my undergraduate education at the University of Colorado in Bolder. I then was accepted to medical school at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. While there, I received a Uniform Services Health Profession Scholarship and chose to join the Navy.
Upon graduating from medical school, I completed my internship at the naval hospital here in San Diego. Despite my love for the Navy, I felt that I could fulfill my goals as a surgeon better in private practice. I then had the opportunity to join Dr. Hyde and Sherman at Surgical Associates of La Jolla.
Since I came to Scripps Memorial, I've had the privilege of serving my colleagues as the Chairman of the General Surgery Section. I've served as President of the San Diego Society of General Surgeons, and I'm currently an officer in the San Diego Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.
