DR. SUNIL BHOYRUL: I was born on the island of Mauritius, a tiny island off the coast of South Africa. My parents were English teachers, and so we traveled. We traveled from Mauritius to Zambia in Southern Africa to England and to Scotland.
I went to medical school in Aberdeen in Scotland. I did my initial surgical training in London where I became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. And then, after that, we moved to the United States with my wife and my two wonderful boys.
I did my surgery residency at Stanford where I became Chief Resident in Surgery. And then, I did a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery at the University of California in San Francisco. After that, I joined a large medical group, the Scripps Clinic, where I became the Head of General Surgery. And about a year ago, I joined this wonderful practice here, Surgical Associates of La Jolla.
